techniques for the techniques for the treatment of clients after stroke, traumatic brain injury and
other neurological disorders.

Course description and content

Manual therapy is an essential component in the rehabilitation of patients with neurological disorders. This client group often suffers from joint restrictions, which are frequently accompanied by symptoms such as hypertonus and spasticity. Even short phases of immobility can lead to considerable movement restrictions and joint stiffness, which can make the reintegration of newly learned movement sequences difficult or even impossible.

This practice-oriented intensive course is aimed at occupational therapists and physiotherapists who wish to deepen their specialist knowledge of manual therapy in the context of neurological clients. The focus is on the mobilization of joints and tissue using targeted manual therapy techniques. Particular attention is paid to low-reflex working methods so as not to negatively influence spasticity and tone. In addition, the client’s self-efficacy is maximized by choosing active starting positions.

An initial assessment lays the foundation for the targeted treatment of common passive mobility limitations, especially in the lumbar spine (LWS), thoracic spine (BWS), scapula, forearm, hand, and foot.

Upon completing the course, you will be well-equipped to support your clients with sound grip and technique methods to optimize joint mobility and establish a solid foundation for advanced therapy approaches.
