Orthosis Course – Utley Foot Orthosis (UFO)

Target group

This course is aimed at physiotherapists, occupational therapists and prosthetists who work with clients who would benefit from Utley Foot Orthosis (UFO) due to a stroke or similar condition.

Content

In this three-day course, participants learn how to individually manufacture the UFO in collaboration with an orthopaedic technician. with neurological dysfunctions.

  • Participants understand the biomechanical components of the gait phases.

  • The participants know the most common gait deviations in hemiparetic clients.

  • The participants can describe to an orthopaedic technician all the important points for the fabrication of the UFO.

  • The participants can explain how the UFO could affect hemiparetic clients.

  • The participants can support the orthopaedic technician in making an optimal plaster cast.

  • The participants can draw the most important markings for the UFO on the plaster cast.

  • The participants can carry out the first fitting of the UFO.

Course schedule

Day 1: Theoretical introduction, biomechanics of gait, mechanisms of action of the UFO and a case study

Day 2-3: Practical work in the orthopaedic workshop

Course fee

600,- CHF including digital script, snack during breaks and demo materials. All materials such as casts and orthoses can be taken home after the course and used as examples.
